The Scribe Academy

Minimizing PII Collection for Maximum Privacy

What is Anonymous Rostering?

HOW IT WORKS

1

School Generates Codes

The school creates anonymous student codes (e.g., "STU-2024-001") using their own system. The mapping between codes and real students stays with the school.

2

Upload Anonymous Roster

School uploads a CSV with only: Student Code, Grade Level (optional), Class Period (optional). No names, emails, or other PII.

3

Generate Access Credentials

System generates unique login links or QR codes for each student code. Teacher distributes these in class.

4

Students Use Platform

Students access the platform using their code. All work is saved under the anonymous identifier.

5

Teacher Views Progress

Teacher sees progress by code. They use their own mapping to identify students if needed.

ANONYMOUS ROSTER CSV FORMAT

Upload a simple CSV file with the following columns:

# Example anonymous_roster.csv

student_code,grade,period

STU-2024-002,7,1

STU-2024-003,7,2

STU-2024-004,8,3

STU-2024-005,8,3

student_code

Required. Unique identifier.

grade

Optional. For content leveling.

period

Optional. For class grouping.

PRIVACY BENEFITS

πŸ”’ Data Minimization

We only store what's necessary. No names, emails, or demographics means less data at risk.

πŸ›‘οΈ Breach Protection

If breached, attackers get meaningless codesβ€”not student identities.

πŸ“‹ Simplified Compliance

Less PII = simpler FERPA, COPPA, and SOPIPA compliance.

🏫 School Control

The school maintains the only copy of the code-to-student mapping.
